Our Water Well Installation Process

The general purpose of a well is to supply water to meet people’s needs. However, wells have many other uses as well, such as returning water into the ground from geothermal heating. Wells are an essential resource for many communities, providing a reliable source of water for a variety of uses. Wiley & Co are experts at installing wells and can help you in the Delaware area.

Well Drilling Process

Drilling a hole deep into the ground is the first step in the water well installation process. The soil sample taken from the ground helps us determine the amount of water and its location at that depth. Once an acceptable water source is located, a piece of pipe, known as a well screen, is placed at the bottom of the hole. This pipe is machined with very thin slots, allowing the water to flow inside the pipe.

Well Water Gravel Filter

Installing grout around a well can help protect against surface contamination. The gravel acts as a filter, keeping dirt and sand out of the well screen. Grout seals off the hole around the pipe so that any potential contamination at the surface level won’t find its way down the hole around the outside of the well casing. This is an important step in protecting your well and its water quality.

The Well Pump

At Wiley & Co, we use many types of pumps, tanks, and fittings to get the water out of a well. Out of the two basic styles of pumps for water wells, suction pumps are becoming less popular due to their lack of reliability in comparison to submersible pumps. Suction pumps are situated above the water table and work by drawing the water out of the well, similar to a straw. Submersible pumps, on the other hand, are far more reliable, making them the preferred choice for many customers.

The Expansion Tank

Once water is flowing to the house source, it is generally necessary to install a water expansion tank. These tanks are lined on the inside and they contain air pressure to keep them functioning properly.

If you are in the Delaware area and need a water well installed, look no further than Wiley & Co. We strive to build the best wells and irrigation systems and look forward to working with you.
